Alison Nast – HKRS Oviedo, FL
How many seasons have you been a Community Coordinator?
This Spring is my 4th season with HKRS
Tell us about yourself! What inspired you to join HKRS?
When my daughter was 3, I noticed her running every chance she got. I looked for a track team, but of course, it was hard to find one that accepted 3-year-olds. Someone told me about the Healthy Kids Running Series, but there wasn’t a location close to us, so I kept an eye open for a local series opening up over the next year or so until I inquired about becoming a coordinator myself. I didn’t find my love of running until I was in college, so I love that I can help foster that in younger kids as a coordinator.
What is your biggest success as a Coordinator so far (or favorite race day moment)?
My biggest success is probably the rapid growth that we’ve seen between when we started in Fall of ’23 (55 participants) up until now in the Fall of ’24 (188 participants), and we are expecting more this Spring.
What makes your community special?
The Oviedo community loves to come together to connect outside of school for our races… And then come back with extra friends. Oviedo is also known for its chickens.
What is some advice you would like to share with fellow Community Coordinators?
By putting a little “extra” in each season, you’ll get a LOT out of it. The time and effort is so worth it.
Fun Fact:
Not sure how “fun” this is, but I like to juggle as many things as possible. Teaching, homeschooling, coordinating major projects, helping my husband with his business, and the list goes on.
