Christine Bridges – HKRS – Caledonia, MI

How many seasons have you been a Community Coordinator?
I’ve been a Community Coordinator for 13 seasons.
What inspired you to join HKRS?
I’ve always loved to run so when I learned about the program from my niece and nephews who participated in a different state, I decided to start an HKRS Series in my hometown!
What’s your favorite part of race day and/or what’s your proudest moment as a Community Coordinator?
I absolutely love seeing the kids’ sense of accomplishment after they cross the finish line. It’s especially wonderful to see them tackle a new distance and prove to themselves that they can do it! Some of my proudest moments have been seeing kids fall in love with the sport and continue to run outside of HKRS – whether in middle school, high school or at local 5ks.
What’s something you’ve learned, whether a skill, a mindset, or a new perspective, since becoming a Community Coordinator?
My time with HKRS has taught me that this program is about so much more than just running. It’s truly about community. The entire community shows up to root on these kids on Sunday afternoons! Our high school cross country athletes help with warm ups and pace the kids around the course. Local run club members give high fives as the kids come into the finish line chute. Our local businesses are handing out healthy snacks and fun swag after the races. HKRS brings everyone together and is a truly heart-warming event.
If you could bring one guest to a race day, real or fictional, who would it be and why?
I would love to bring Des Linden – my favorite professional runner! She’s always been an inspiration to me so it would be neat to introduce her to the kids
