Kalila Foster (Coordinator): Almost 9 years as coordinator (Started in 2014)
WHAT’S A GREAT MISSION MOMENT YOU’VE EXPERIENCED AS A CC?
There were many times I doubted myself each week asking myself if the program was good enough, and will families enjoy the series, and want to return. And then at the end of each race, when we receive emails on how wonderful the program is and how much confidence their runner has gained by joining us each week. It’s like an aha moment and It’s those emails that remind me everything is ok.
WHY DO YOU LOVE HEALTHY KIDS?
I started HKRS when I moved to Atkinson as a way to meet folks and boy did I. I signed my daughter up in the Andover race and learned that I could bring this to my community. I love the support that not only HKRS main office provides the local Community Coordinators but also the volunteers. So many step up to support HKRS Plaistow. It’s beautiful.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE LOCAL PROGRAM?
Continue providing a fun relaxed environment for youth in which they will thrive and feel a burst of inner pride and confidence that propels them into becoming their best self.
FUN FACTS ABOUT ME:
I low-key love covered bridges. I don’t speak about it often and not many know. It started when I watched the movie Bridges of Madison County years ago. A few weeks ago I took a tour up north and was able to see 8 covered bridges!
Tina Dufresne (Co-Coordinator): 5 ½ years as co-coordinator (Started in 2018)
WHAT’S A GREAT MISSION MOMENT YOU’VE EXPERIENCED AS A CC?
We had a participant who had a health issue and couldn’t be with us for a series. The doctor gave her a clean bill of health and she came back with a vengeance and won 1st place for her race group. Giving her that trophy was the best feeling in the world!
WHY DO YOU LOVE HEALTHY KIDS?
I love HKRS for everything it stands for! My son started it when he was three and he loved it. Soon I found myself helping where I could and then was asked to co-coordinate with Kalila. It has been the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever volunteered for. To see these kids come back every series and work harder each and every time. The “littles” as I call them with their big smiles and just so happy to be there. It gives me all the feels. I’m so happy this program is out there for these kids.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE LOCAL PROGRAM?
My goal is to keep the kids and parents wanting to come back! When you hear a parent get excited about another series, it makes my heart burst with pride.
FUN FACTS ABOUT ME:
I am a runner myself! I have completed two full marathons, a dozen half marathons, and countless 10ks, and 5ks. Running is therapeutic for me!
