How many seasons have you been a Community Coordinator?

I started with Healthy kids in Spring of 2022.

What inspired you to join HKRS?

I became an avid runner in my 20s and running was a huge part of my life from then on. I always loved seeing how it could bring people together in such a positive way! I ran the Boston Marathon in 2014 and the sense of pride and camaraderie amongst the runners on that day left a lasting impression on me. I’d like to say that inspired me to join HKRS, however the real reason is my wife and I were looking for activities for my daughter to start when she turned 2 and we turned to healthy kids. The coordinator had just stepped down and rather than look for another series my wife said, “why don’t you just do it”.

What’s your favorite part of race day and/or what’s your proudest moment as a Community Coordinator? 

My favorite part on race day is seeing the smiles and successes. Success means something different to each kid on race day and seeing them achieve that is an awesome experience. We have the best group of volunteers as well! My wife is a huge part of the creative process on race day, we try to put the families in position to make memories together.

What’s something you’ve learned, whether a skill, a mindset, or a new perspective, since becoming a Community Coordinator? 

I’ve learned just how important inclusion is. Running is something that accepts everyone. Everyone should be able to participate and do whatever their best looks like to them.

If you could bring one guest to a race day, real or fictional, who would it be and why? 

I would bring The Phanatic, Gritty, Franklin, and Swoop. So they can meet our mascot Hero and hype up the kids!

Lastly I have to say none of this is possible without the hard work of Kate, Justine, Corrine, and all of the home office!
