Jade Foust – HKRS – York, PA

How many seasons have you been a Community Coordinator?
This is my 2nd season!
What inspired you to join HKRS?
I’ve always loved competitive sports. I was a swimmer for most of my life, but after college I needed a more accessible sport. I fell in love with running! With my teaching background, I thought HKRS would be a great way to combine two of my favorite things, running and helping kids find ways to succeed!
What’s your favorite part of race day and/or what’s your proudest moment as a Community Coordinator?
My favorite thing is cheering for the kids. I’ve been working for the last 2 seasons to learn the kids’ names. When I cheer for them or congratulate them by name as they cross the finish line, I love seeing them light up and share some of that excitement with me.
What’s something you’ve learned, whether a skill, a mindset, or a new perspective, since becoming a Community Coordinator?
In teaching I get to build connections with my students and families over the course of an entire school year. With HKRS I’ve had to learn how to build connections with 10 times the number of kids over a course of 5 races. It’s something I’m still working on, but I love getting to know the runners and their families!
If you could bring one guest to a race day, real or fictional, who would it be and why?
If I could invite anyone to race day, it would probably be Judy Hopps from Zootopia. She has a persistent/don’t give up attitude that would be a positive experience for our runners.
