Skip the sugar

So, you know that there’s a ton of sugar in a can of soda, and in the average bakery treat, but did you know that you can go overboard on the sweet stuff in seemingly healthy foods like condiments and 100% fruit juice? Yikes!

Some of the biggest sugar sneaks include granola bars, juice, and even some packaged fruits.  Avoid these items by making your own! Give your kids whole fruits, only allow 8 ounces of fruit juice per day, and try this super easy energy ball recipe to replace those per-packaged granola bars.  Little choices can make big changes!

Nut Butter and oat energy balls

1 cup (dry) oatmeal

½ cup chocolate chips

½ cup natural peanutbutter

½ cup ground flax seed

1/3 cup honey or agave

1 tsp. vanilla

Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.  Roll into bite sized balls. Refrigerate to set and enjoy!
