Because of this, the couple chose to coordinate a Healthy Kids Running Series event in Littleton. The national series was created by Jeff Long, founder and president of Pattison Sports Group, to provide kids with a positive, educational and fun experience in the world of running.

The running series is a five-week program, open to kids from preschool to eighth grade. According to the Healthy Kids website, each race series offers age-appropriate running events, including the 50-yard dash, 75-yard dash, ¼ mile, ½ mile and 1-mile. Participants can return weekly to have fun, build endurance and improve running skills. The program will culminate with a final race, where kids who place first will receive a trophy. All runners receive a medal and a gift bag for participation.
